Steward Jerks His Way to Victory
DANBURY – TJ “Giant Crankbaits” Steward took first place at the annual BAWS mid-week spring Candlewood tournament with a 15.35 lb bag of smallsmouth. Steward explained a jerkbait was his magic ticket for the day. “Not sure what it is about that bait, but I sure can slay ‘em on that,” he boasted confidently. The win was Steward’s first in an individual BAWS tournament. “I was happy to check that off my bucket list,” he said in response. Mike “Out of Gas” Adamciewicziewsizwcziewicz and Dave “Captain Sandbag” Gontarz rounded out the top three on the boater side respectively. “I really need to get my gas gauge fixed,” noted Adamciewicziewsizwcziewicz.
Steve “7th to Last Trip Out This Year” Fischer took the top non-boater spot with a respectable 12.66 lb creel. “It was nice to do well here, hadn’t had a good spring day here in a while” stated Fischer. Dave “Free Time” Botteron finished behind Fisher with Kevin “Beers” Repoli creating a formidable top-3.
Lunker for the day went to Tim “Shoeshine” Shanahan, weighing in the only fish to crack the 4-lb mark. “Wasn’t sure if it was going to hold up but was happy to see that it did,” Shanahan stated.
With two tournaments in the books, Steward leads Okun by 3 points in the overall standings, with Adamciewicziewsizwcziewicz sitting one point behind Okun. Fischer holds a slim one-point lead over an upstart Chris “Nipples” Then on the non-boater side.
